PJ MAC HVAC Service & Repair โ€” A Trade Flex Company

Air Duct Cleaning in Chester, PA

Chester has some of the oldest continuously occupied housing in Delaware County, and a lot of its duct systems have been in place through several changes of heating equipment. Where a system has moved from coal to oil to gas over its life, what accumulates in the ductwork is not ordinary household dust.

PJ MAC provides Chester air duct cleaning from our Swarthmore office, cleaning to NADCA standard.

Source removal, not register vacuuming

NADCA standard means the duct system is placed under continuous negative pressure so that everything dislodged is carried into sealed containment rather than into the house. Each supply and return branch is agitated mechanically and drawn back to the collection unit, and the air handler โ€” blower wheel and coil โ€” is cleaned as part of the same job.

The alternative you often see advertised cheaply is a vacuum at the registers. That cleans the visible foot or two behind each grille and leaves the trunk lines, which is where the loading actually sits.

When it is genuinely worth doing

  • โœ“After renovation, demolition or plaster work โ€” construction dust in ductwork is the clearest case there is
  • โœ“After water intrusion or a condensate overflow reached the ducts, where the concern is microbial growth
  • โœ“Where there is evidence of rodent or insect activity in the ducts or the basement chases
  • โœ“On buying an older home whose maintenance history is unknown
  • โœ“Where debris is visibly blowing from supply registers

And when it is not

We will tell you when cleaning will not help. If the complaint is uneven temperatures or weak airflow, the cause is far more likely to be duct leakage, undersized returns or a dirty evaporator coil โ€” and duct cleaning will not change any of those. Those are different jobs, and we would rather do the one that solves your problem.

Chester Air Duct Cleaning โ€” Questions We Get

How do I know if my ducts actually need cleaning?

The honest indicators are visible debris at the registers, a recent renovation, water intrusion, pest activity, or buying a house with unknown history. Age alone is not a reason. If none of those apply we will tell you so rather than sell you the service.

Is the furnace or air handler included?

Yes. The blower wheel and evaporator coil hold a large share of a system's fine dust, and cleaning ductwork while leaving those loaded means it reloads quickly. A quote that excludes the air handler is a partial job.

Will cleaning the ducts improve my airflow?

Only if the ducts are genuinely obstructed, which is uncommon. Weak airflow is usually caused by undersized returns, duct leakage or a dirty coil. We would rather diagnose that properly than take payment for a cleaning that will not fix it.

How long does it take?

Most single-family homes are a half-day job depending on the number of supply and return branches and the condition of the system. We will give you a realistic time when we see the system rather than a fixed figure over the phone.

Do you handle dryer vents too?

Yes. Dryer vent cleaning is a separate service and a genuine fire-safety issue, particularly where the vent run is long or has several bends.
