Static pressure tells you which problem you have
Before recommending anything we measure how hard the blower is working against the system it is connected to. High static pressure means the air is being strangled somewhere โ a starved return, a crushed flexible run, a closed damper, a filter grille far too small for the equipment. Poor airflow alongside a clean filter and a healthy blower points at the duct rather than the machine. It is a quick reading, and it prevents a lot of unnecessary equipment work.

What is a panned return, and why does it matter?
It is a return path formed by closing off a joist bay or wall cavity with sheet metal instead of running actual duct. Because the cavity was never built to be airtight, under suction it pulls air from the basement, the walls and anywhere else it touches, then delivers that to the blower. Sealing or replacing those paths is one of the most worthwhile things we do here.
Why is my third floor always the worst room in the house?
The runs serving it are the longest, and they usually pass through attic or knee-wall space that is brutally hot in summer and cold in winter. Air leaking out of those runs is lost, and the air that gets through arrives at the wrong temperature. Sealing and insulating them is normally the fix.
How do you know it is the duct and not the equipment?
We measure static pressure and airflow first. If the blower is fighting a high pressure with a clean filter, the restriction is in the distribution and no amount of new equipment will change that. It is a fast measurement and it is the honest way to decide where the money goes.
Is duct repair the same thing as duct cleaning?
No, they are separate jobs and they solve different problems. Repair and sealing address leakage, restriction and airflow. Will sealing my ducts make the air in the house better?
It changes where the air comes from.
