Cast iron radiators are famously forgiving and hide years of neglect; the wear is all at the boiler and its controls.
The cooling side was retrofitted, and it shows
Retrofit cooling in these houses usually puts the air handler in an attic or closet, feeds it with a long line set, and has nowhere convenient to drain condensate. So a small pump is doing critical work in a place nobody looks. Those pumps are the most common summer nuisance failure we see in Wayne, and one failing above a finished ceiling is a plaster repair, not a comfort complaint.
Where the retrofit used small-duct high-velocity equipment, the service standards change. That system is designed to operate at static pressures that would signal a serious fault on a conventional air handler, and reading it against conventional numbers produces a wrong diagnosis and an unnecessary quote.

My house has radiators and central air. Is that one service call or two?
Two, and they belong in different seasons. The boiler and the cooling system share nothing except the building, so they need different instruments, different checks and different timing. Booking both into one summer visit means the boiler gets a look rather than a service.
Why does the pressure relief valve on my boiler drip?
Most often a waterlogged expansion tank. The tank holds a pre-charge of air behind a diaphragm to absorb expansion as the water heats, and when that diaphragm fails the pressure has nowhere to go, so the relief valve opens. It is an inexpensive part and it is checked in a couple of minutes.
There is a small box near my air handler that hums and sometimes overflows.
That is the condensate pump, and it is doing critical work. It lifts the water the coil produces to somewhere it can drain. When it fails above a finished ceiling the result is water damage rather than a comfort problem, so the pump, its float switch and the secondary pan get checked every cooling visit.
Do you service steam heat?
Yes. Steam has its own maintenance list: testing and flushing the low-water cutoff, checking the vents that let air out so steam can get in, confirming the near-boiler piping and the pitch of the returns, and combustion testing. It is a different job from hot water and it is treated as one.
My cooling system runs at a pressure the last contractor said was dangerous.
If it is a small-duct high-velocity system, that reading is probably normal. Those systems are designed around static pressures that would indicate a serious problem on a conventional air handler. Judging one by the other's numbers is the most common reason these systems get misdiagnosed and needlessly quoted for replacement.
Is an old boiler worth keeping?
Frequently, yes. Cast iron sections can run for decades and usually outlast the controls attached to them. The question worth answering is whether the next failure is a cheap control or the appliance itself, and that is something a proper service visit can tell you well before you are forced to decide.
